Michael Bastian, the lead designer of Gant’s line of clothing and glasses, shares his passion for classic American style through a traditional design aesthetic that is the epitome of New England preppy.
The Gant brand, which was first launched by Bernard Gant in 1949, was first known as the must-have brand of clothing on all Ivy League campuses, specifically for their button-down shirts made from classic sportswear fabric. Gant has since expanded its design endeavors to include glasses, footware, fragrance and homeware.
Parallel to the well-tailored designs of the Gant clothing line, Michael Bastian’s glasses feature classic shapes and clean lines. Gant glasses offer a variety of traditional metal full-frame and semi-rimless designs, as well as sportier acetate styles such as these round frames that feature a keyhole nosebridge.

Meet the Gant Man
When asked to describe menswear right now, Michael Bastian is quoted by hypebeast.com stating: “Right now, we’re just beginning to see young guys playing around with the idea of dressing up more and I think this is going to continue. To these guys who have never been forced to wear a suit, suddenly it’s cool to wear one every now and then and shake things up. It’s great seeing young guys play around and express themselves more this way.”
