This week we feature two brands inspired by traditional design and craftsmanship: Hardy Optical and GANT Eyewear.
GANT eyewear grew from the brand created by Bernard Gantmacher in 1914 that initially focused on bringing a new concept in design – the button-down shirt – to North America. As the family brand developed into an international favourite, GANT continued to emphasize high quality materials in all of their products. Each pair of GANT glasses is made from handmade acetates, in retro-inspired designs including round, rectangular and cat eye shapes.
A newer optical brand, Hardy is inspired by the point in which nature and urban intersects. Patterns and hues include warm tones, granite and steel. Each pair of glasses is made from handmade acetate and are joined by German titanium hinges. The collection also includes shapes that marry acetate with stainless steel.
